|The Importance of Safety Training on the Worksite: September 2017
Safety is important in any workplace, but it’s of particular importance in hazardous jobs and worksites. This is why the Occupational Safety and Health Administration has strict rules and guidelines for workplace safety. When accidents, injuries, and even deaths do occur it’s often attributed to an OSHA violation on the worksite. Every year OSHA comes out with it’s Top 10 Violations of workplace health and safety. The following is the newly released list for the 2017 fiscal year.
Fall Protection in construction - Unprotected edges, open sides in residential construction, failure to provide fall protection.
Hazard Communication - Not having a hazard communication program.
Scaffolding - Improper access to surfaces and lack of guardrails.
Respiratory Protection - Failure to establish a respiratory protection program.
Lockout/Tagout - Inadequate worker training and inspections not completed.
Ladders in construction - Improper use of ladders, damaged ladders, and using the top step.
Powered Industrial Trucks - Inadequate worker training and refresher training.
Machine Guarding - Exposure to points of operation.
Fall Protection - training requirements - Failure to train workers in identifying fall hazards and proper use of fall protection equipment.
Electrical - wiring methods.
The violations listed above are particularly common on construction sites where dangerous machinery, materials, and heights are commonplace. That is why implementing construction safety training and rules is so important. However, implementing said training can be challenging if you don’t know how to do it.
